The residents, according to Thika West OCPD Shadrack Maithya, are providing leads that may help them track a gang of more than seven people that raided a rental estate in the area and stole property of unknown value.

The gang broke into the building using metal rods and sharp objects that were used to cut down padlocks.

According to the residents, it was not the first time the assailants attempted to steal from the premises, though they had failed each time until last weekend when they succeeded in stealing some property.

“They attempted the first time but they were not able since we were aware and still awake, but this time they finally succeeded but we managed to recover few items from them,” said Jackson Mungai, a caretaker at the premises.

Mungai said the landlord would construct new security mechanisms when he is ready.

“The landlord often says that he is not yet ready to make changes about the security issue and when he is ready he will do it,” Mungai said.

The residents managed to recover few items and one of the men was beaten up before he was taken to the area police station that night.

The Thika West OCPD has warned all those involved in the crime that they will soon be brought to book.

“We have one of the culprits in custody and I warn the rest that we are going to arrest them soon,” Maithya explained.
