Residents of Kyanzavi in Matungulu, Machakos County have threatened to slaughter monkeys which have been invading their farms.
They vowed to feast on the 'stubborn' wildlife that continues to cause havoc to their crops.
Kyanzavi village's 'Nyumba Kumi' chairman Jeremiah Kioko said the monkeys had destroyed crops in most of the farms in the area.
He said most of the farmers will not harvest reasonable produce since their farms had been reduced to the ground by the beasts.
"These animals have taken a toll on our lives, our farms look like fields due to their inversion by the monkeys. Most of the farms around have nothing left," Kioko said.
Kioko addressed the press in Matungulu on Wednesday.
He decried increased human-wildlife conflict in the area saying that the Kenya wildlife service hasn't been taking the matter with the weight it deserves.Kioko said other wildlife including buffaloes causes them sleepless nights on daily basis. He made these sentiments after a middle-aged man was attacked by several monkeys which had invaded his farm as he attempted to drive them away.
The victim, Nahashon Nzau, was admitted at Ol-Donyo Sabuk Dispensary where he is undergoing treatment after he sustained serious injuries.
