Most supermarkets opened as early as 5:30 am for locals to buy.
Tuskys Chigware Kisii was full of customers by 7 am in the morning.
A Naivas supermarket attendant Joel Nyamote said they changed opening time because they expected more customers to shop at the supermarket.
“The management said we should open in time to prepare and serve the customers well. During such seasons, we are also forced to work for long hours due to the increased number of customers,” he said.
Macmillan Onsinyo, an attendant at Kisii Mattresses Supermarket said they have a full stock of books, pens, and other learning materials.
“We planned well for the back to schools season. All school materials are in stock and we hope our customers won’t miss what they want as children report back to schools this year,” said Onsinyo.
