Gituamba residents have thronged voter registration centres ahead of the process closure on Tuesday evening.
The residents were on Monday mobilised to wake up early by Gituamba MCA Sammy Ng’ang’a. According to Ng’ang’a, the residents have a responsibility to register as voters owing to the fact that they are Kenyans.
The MCA who gave out four matatus to ferry residents to the centres urged the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to consider extending the registration to have no Kenyan left behind.
Speaking to residents during the registration exercise in Gituamba town hall where the registration centre in located, the MCA called on Mount Kenya residents to be united and work in harmony to steer development projects.
“Being the last day of voter registration countrywide, I wish that IEBC extends the registration process to allow everyone get an opportunity to elect leaders of their choice,” he said.
The residents lamented few number of registration centres in the area as the course to low voter registration turnout.
“We only had two voter registration centres in Gituamba, one in Gituamba Town and the other in Mataara town. This has barred many especially the elderly from registration,” Martin Kagiri, a resident of Gituamba said.
