Residents and business owners in Nyali Mombasa have agreed to build a police station in the area at a tune of Sh26 million.
The locals under Nyali Business and Residents Associaation (NBRA) have raised money to build a gender unit at a local sation at a tune of Sh19 million while Sh7 million will be channelled towards the construction of a perimeter wall.
The move is aimed at improving services at the police station.
"All police stations in the country require gender units, We decided to take up this project because we all need the station," NBRA chairperson Wangeri Ndegwa is quoted by the Standard.
According to Ndegwa, the gender unit will be used to assist victims of sexual abuse, mostly boys, and girls.
The money was raised since last year July as an initiative of social corporate responsibility.
"So far we have used sh700, 000on the project to assist the entire community at large," added Ndegwa.
The cahair added that the fundsdrive is still ongoing since several people and groupos had promised to controbute towards the initiative.
Coast cordinator Nelson Marwa is set to overseee the ground breaking ceremony of the projrct on a date that is yet to be disclosed.
