The Kisii deputy county commissioner, Peter Mbugi, in an interview on Thursday said the government was reminding Kenyans to be careful with whom they interact with.

"Terrorists are targeting soft groups such as learning institutions, churches and shopping malls," said Mbugi.

In April last year, Al-Shabaab militants stormed into Garissa University College and killed at least 147 people.

The commissioner added that the government required support from citizens to ensure terrorism is eliminated in the country.

"The intention of terror groups is to instill fear into innocent people. Let us all cooperate and report suspicious incidents to the police," he said.
