Machakos County residents who depend on Yatta canal for water supply have been asked to brace for water rationing starting Tuesday, January 30, 2018.
Yatta Water services company managing director Augustus Mboya said the rationing of water is due to falling of water levels in river Thika which feeds the canal.
“We are unable to produce enough water to serve the residents. There will be water rationing from Tuesday as we wait for water levels to increase at river Thika,” he said.
He said Kisiiki, Ekalakala and Masinga residents will be the most affected by the rationing program.
“Residents are advised to utilize the available water because the supply of water will be limited,” he said.
Mboya said the water rationing will stop once water levels at river Thika increase.
“We are hoping the situation will normalize once rains start to increase water levels at River Thika,” he added.
