The traders have threatened to stop paying taxes to Kisii county government until the garbage disposal menace is addressed by relevant authorities.
Charles Getonto, a resident said if there will be no proper garbage disposal in the region, diseases such as cholera will outbreak.
“Governor Ongwae promised to ensure the living and business environment is clean but nothing has been done to improve on waste disposal,” he said.
A trader, Beatrice Sing’ombe said traders pay daily tax to the county but starting January 2018, no trader will be paying revenue to the county until the garbage is collected.
According to Jared Ombogo, a matatu conductor, Kisii county department of environment has failed to deliver to locals.
“We won’t continue having failures to serve in offices to serve the electorates. Ongwae should send home lazy workers in the environment department to improve on garbage collection not only in Keumbu but also across the county,” said Ombogo.
