Most residents are currently forced to travel to Machakos town to apply for the birth certificates while others are using brokers.

Veronicah Muinde, Kangundo resident and a parent says that it is tiresome to access the document.

Muinde has heard tales of women trying to access the certificates for their children little did she knew that one day she will find herself in the quagmire.

For now she has been trying to access the document for her two children who she says can not be allowed to sit for Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) with no avail.

"You have to get it and it is not easy," says Muinde.

"Brokers ask for Sh1,000 to acquire it of which it is a lot of money for most parents," notes Muinde.

Officially the cetificate is charged Sh100, which she says is much affordable but she urges the county government to bring services closer to the people.

She further says that there is always long ques in those offices hence sometimes is not possible to finish the process of acquring the document in day.

According to the residents the brokers take advantage of their desperate situations and impose very high payments.

However, the high payments are not a guarantee to getting the birth certificates as some agents disappear with the money.

The residents have therefore called upon the area Member of Parliament Kyengo Katapha and the county government to put up offices in Kangundo Constituency so that they can easily access the services.
