Residents from Naivasha town have urged the police to ensure that they curb the increased cases of cattle rustling.
Speaking during a meeting with the police officers in Naivasha town yesterday, the residents said that the rustlers usually targeted the elderly who did not have enough strength to face them.
The MCA for Naivasha East Ward Samuel Waithuki was present during the meeting. He assured all the residents that the government was going to act on the issue.
"Insecurity in the country is very weak and especially here in Naivasha, the cases of cattle rustling have increased. It was only last week that two suspects were caught minutes after having slaughtered two dairy cattle and a donkey. We are giving a stern warning to all the thieves out there that their days are numbered,” Waithuki said.
Waithuki went ahead and said that they were very concerned by the increase of cattle rustling and also illicit brews in the sub county.
Naivasha Police Boss Robert Maingi asked the residents to exercise community policising and ensure that they alert the police in any case that arise in the estates.
"We as the police officers are going to do everything in our position to ensure that the crimes are reduced with immediate effects. We also kindly urge you to be on the forefront to assist us in curbing crimes. You should at all times report to us or give us information of any person who you think is a criminal. Make use of community policing", Maingi said.
Peter Kamau who is a resident and an affected person whereby four of his cattle were stolen last week said that the criminals usually targeted homesteads that belonged to the elderly.
“They invaded my house and since i was very weak and not able to walk, they went with my cows freely and very comfortable. I ask the police to please assist us in ensuring that they catch all the thieves,” Kamau said.
