Nyanza residents want Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga to vie for presidency in 2022.
According to legislators from the area, Raila is best suited to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta and, therefore, should make another stab at the country's topmost office.
Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi said politicians should not prevail upon the former Prime Minister to quit politics but should be left free to determine his political future.
"Anybody asking Raila to retire from active politics is an enemy of the Luo and will meet our wrath," he said, speaking to Saturday Standard.
In the same breath, Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo said the next presidential election will be for the 72-year-old ODM leader to lose.
"I think 2022 will be the final battle in elections when Raila will ascend to the presidency," Odhiambo said.
Atandi last week warned Nyanza politicians against debating Raila's succession, saying there was no leadership vacuum in the region.
"We do not have a crisis in leadership in Nyanza or the opposition and anyone talking about the Raila succession should be stoned," the MP said.
He dismissed reports that following the famous handshake between Raila and Uhuru there were plans to appoint the opposition leader a special envoy to the African Union.
"The AU narrative is propaganda and should be treated as such," Atandi said.
