The youths and women in Kiambu Sub County have been urged to apply for individual and group loans to venture into businesses so as to curb unemployment
Speaking from her office today, Kiambu Sub County youth officer, Charity Githinji, said that the ministry of youth affairs and sports is doing all it can to support its youths and women in the sub county.
She added that they are being offered loans to venture into different businesses so as to curb the unemployment menace. She explained that the funds include: the Uwezo fund, youth fund, women fund as well as Biashara fund which is offered by the country.
“The youths and women can get both group and individual loans with no payments or interest rate apart from the youth fund which requires an administration fee of 5%”, said Githinji.
She explained that for a group or an individual to qualify for a loan, one needs to be a member of a registered group of ten and above for at least 6 months and have an existing registered business for an individual loan.
“Upon the application for a loan, the youths or women are first given an entrepreneurship training to enable them invest wisely and make better judgments on their business ventures”, said Githinji.
According to Erastus Waweru, a youth in Kiambu, the ministry of youth affairs and sports is doing a good job and bettering the lives of the Kiambu youths.
He added that he cannot fathom what he would be doing if not for the Uwezo fund that their group was given.
Eunice Macharia, a youth in Kiambu County said that she too has benefited with the youth loans as she took a youth fund loan and improved her business.
She said that the government has done well since the youths have been able to embrace self-employment and not rely solely on white collar jobs.
