Residents of Kibera have been called upon to be vigilant due to the increased fire incidences that have left many residents in the slums homeless.

This is after a fire broke out on Sunday night and razed down houses as residents were left incurring losses in Kichinjio area, Kibera in which there were no causalities reported.  

Through fire safety awareness that started on Monday in the slums with Red Cross and other partners sponsoring the events, residents have been urged to be more vigilant to avoid losing property and lives in future. 

Speaking at Kichinjio area, the Miji Kumi chairman, Johnson Omurwa noted that cases of fire outbreaks have been on the rise and residents should take responsibility to ensure fire outbreaks is contented.  

"If it was not the county government firefighters who help contain the fire, it would be a total mess. Power sockets should be put off when not in use and electricity wires should be connected appropriated. Stoves should also be put off as this has also contributed to fires due to explosions.  

Fire safety awareness is expected to run throughout this week in Kibera and Kawangware.
