Nakuru residents have been urged to donate blood to support national blood kit, an official from National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS) has said.
Joseph Kamotho, the Corporate Affairs Manager said that the residents should regularly donate blood to support the campaign of saving lives of thousands of Kenyans in need of the blood.
He said that every year thousands of Kenyans need blood as a result of road carnage.
“Kenyans need to donate blood regularly to help those who are involved in road accidents,” said Kamotho.
Addressing Nakuru residents on Tuesday during a blood drive campaign, Kamotho urged residents to come up in large numbers to support the campaign and make it successful.
Kamotho said that the national target is below the expectation of the agency’s target.
“The national target is 400,000 litres of blood but we rarely make it,” said Kamotho.
He revealed that to boost the target, the agency is spreading its wings to cover secondary and university students.
“These segments will boost our target and we have started approaching them,” said Kamotho.
He further asked the government to institute measures to curb the road carnage.
