George Ouma, the Supply Chain Officer Kenya Power and Lighting Company Kisumu Branch has urged members of the public to embrace energy saving methods.

While addressing students at Maseno University’s boardroom during a Sustainable Procurement Seminar, Mr Ouma said it was the duty of every citizen to fight pollution.

He said irresponsible use of energy sources has adverse impacts on the environment.

The Supply Chain Officer urged every citizen who is connected to the national power grid to install energy saving bulbs in their homesteads.

“The use of energy inefficient bulbs and equipment puts a lot of pressure on the environment,” said Mr Ouma.

He continued to mention that other environment friendly energy sources like solar were very effective when properly installed.

He said using them will lower monthly electricity bills in homes, schools and even offices. 

The officer also encouraged the public to plant more trees so as to create equilibrium for the trees fell in pursuit of electric pole and firewood.

He nonetheless noted that currently the power company was installing concrete poles so as to save on the wooden poles sourced from the forests.

Lastly, he urged the students and the public to be apprehensive of technology and embrace E-procurement.

“This will save on paper work and money spent on fueling transport means,” he said.
