Nakuru residents have been advised to go for regular eye checkups to curb the growing visual problems in the county.
Dr Tom Omamo, an ophthalmic nurse from the House of Christ Eye Centre, said eye problems affect all people and at any age.
“Such problems have no age target as many people think,” Omamo said.
“They will affect anyone including those under five. It is important for all people to have regular eye check-ups both for children and adults.”
The doctor was speaking at Free Area shopping centre during a campaign to educate Kenyans on the importance of eye checkups.
He said it is sad for young people to start developing eye problems as this could affect their future. He urged the young generation to avoid wearing glasses that are not prescribed as some of them are dangerous to one’s eyesight.
“Eye problems are becoming a major problem in Kenya and beyond. That is why we encourage people to have regular checkups to combat the problem,” he said.
He said the only solution to the problem is to have regular checks so that in case of any problem, the issue is solved at an early stage.
