Residents of Kathiani in Machakos county have been urged to help police in the fight against drug abuse in the region.

Kathiani deputy county commissioner Margaret Mbugua made the remarks barely four days after a KCSE candidate at Kathiani Boys High school was arrested for allegedly being in possession of bhang.

Mbugua said the government agencies alone will not win the fight against drug abuse.

"Residents should help in the fight against the drug abuse and selling. There will be no future generation if our youths engage in the use of drugs," she said.

She appealed to local administrator to help police officers arrest locals selling the drugs in the region.

"Chiefs and their assistants must be alert and inform the police to arrest offenders. The war against the drugs will not stop anytime soon," he added.

Mbugua warned bod boda riders against ferrying narcotics.

"Police officers will be inspecting boda-boda who we suspect are being used to ferry the drugs to market destinations. Any rider found will face the law," said the commissioner.
