Six inmates in Kisii County have escaped while being transported to the Kisii main prison from Ogembo Magistrate Court.
Police in Kisii have called on residents to help them get the six who escaped along Kisii kilgoris road at Nyasongo.
According to Kisii Police officer boss Simon Kiragu the six inmates forced their way out of the vehicle and ran out.
“We urge the residents to give police any information that will help us get the inmates since they are dangerous to the society and they were facing serious charges,” said Kiragu
Explaining the incident, Kiragu said, “There was commotion in the vehicle, when the four officers on escort tried to intervene, 10 inmates jumped out of the vehicle and fled.”
In the incident the ones who were caught were prisoners Calen Mokeira who was facing charges of (robbery with violence), Evans Moriti was (disturbance) and George kerosi (defilement) were shot as they tried to escape.
“We thank you the neighbouring community who helped us to arrest one of those who were trying to escape and we are requesting members of the public to be vigilant and immediately report to the police on possible hideouts of the other criminals,” said Kiragu
He also said that Cases of inmates escaping from the police’s hands have not been rear in Kisii.
