Businessmen living in violence-prone areas within the city have been advised to have their property insured against political violence.
According to Joseph Kyungu, the Heritage Insurance Ltd chief executive officer, property owners in Kibera and the Nairobi CBD ought to immediately extend their existing insurance plans to further cover damages that could arise through political violence and terror-related challenges.
"Businessmen in Kibera and Nairobi CBD, especially those operating near Anniversary Towers have suffered huge losses due to the Monday anti-IEBC demos. We are calling upon them to make insurance covers to their property to avoid such losses," noted Kyungu.
Ever since the opposition initiated their Monday demonstrations against the Hassan led commission, business owners in Kibera have had to close their premises during the demo days so as to avert further loss of property as witnessed in the first two successive weeks of protests across the slums.
Business owners in the city have also suffered the effects of the IEBC demos as their property was looted by opportunistic individuals out to reap from the ongoing demos.
