Top government officials led by Gesima assistant county commissioner Ms Veronica Wangui seized the opportunity to urge community members to register disabled people with government for easy access of aid.

“I understand that many of us in  society do not easily appreciate disabilities and we end up being silent over the same. They too have rights and should be registered with various government agencies to receive aid,” said Ms Veronica Wangui.

“We want a nation where people are treated justly, fairly and with love. Disability is not someone’s creation and we must accept it whenever we come across it. They should be treated with utmost respect,” she said.

Her Gachuba counterpart, Faith Kendagor, warned members of society against discriminating people living with disability and reiterated the government's commitment in helping victims to live normal lives.

“Disabled people should be respected and as government, we cannot allow incidents of discrimination. It’s proper for them to be treated with regard to the constitutional provisions. Our officers will not hesitate to take actions against those involved in mistreating such people,” she said.
