Gatundu Town residents have been urged to register with, National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) to access affordable and quality healthcare.
Speaking on Friday in Gatundu Town during a health insurance awareness meeting, Mary Muhia, an official from NHIF said that medical cover is important since it helps one to settle his bill with ease.
“Health insurance cover will help you offset hospital bills when illness storms. I urge you to prioritize the cover in your planning,” said Muhia.
She noted that health insurance registration in the area is low due to lack of awareness.
Muhia said that the main role of the fund is to ensure that all Kenyans regardless of their social and economic status have access to quality and equitable health care.
She urged those who are self-employed to register as NHIF members and start contributing.
“You do not have to be employed to register as NHIF member, you can join even if you are self-employed. You just need to make your contribution which is on monthly basis,” notes Muhia.
Muhia also revealed that, Ministry of Health through NHIF has established the Health Insurance Subsidy Programme (HISP) to address the needs of less fortunate and people with disabilities.
She further said that plans are on course to provide health covers to elderly to ensure they enjoy the benefit s of healthcare.
