Residents in Garissa County have been urged to work closely and volunteer information to security agencies that will help in assisting security agencies to arrest individuals behind the Ijara attack.

KDF spokesman colonel David Obonyo said officers from the Kenya Defense Forces caught up with the terrorists believed to be behind the Ijara police station attack.

Mr Obonyo said the Al-Shabaab militants were trying to get to the Somali border when a gun fight ensued.

Five of the Al-Shabaab militants were killed during the confrontation and several others managed to escape with gun wounds.

Mr Obonyo asked members of the public to report any suspicious people with bullet wounds seeking medical attention.

“The troops are still in pursuit of other terrorists who fled with injuries to the general area of Sarira, 25 kilometers North of Baure. Am appealing to members of the public to report any suspicious people with bullet wounds seeking medical attention,” he said.

During the exchange of gunfire, bomb-making materials that were being ferried in the stolen police Land Cruiser exploded destroying it.

“The troops caught up with the militants as they tried to get to the Somalia border. In the ensuing firefight, suspected bomb-making materials that were being ferried exploded destroying the vehicle.”

“However, a motorcycle also suspected to have been stolen in Ijara, five AK 47 rifles, 13 magazines with 370 rounds of ammunition, two grenades, bomb-making materials and personal items were recovered,” added Mr Obonyo.
