Residents of expansive North Eastern Kenya have been urged to shun negative ethnicity and tribalism as the only way to record massive developments and economic gains.
This plea was made by issued by Ambassador Jaffer Issack who noted with concern that the region continues to record stalled development even as devolution ticks closer to its fourth year.
Jaffar said the region lags behind a result of tribalism and the perennial inter-clan conflicts, adding that time had dawned for the communities to live together and dialogue on matters affecting them.
He added that communities should not marginalise themselves or even turn against each other but should instead embrace peace and harmony as tool for social-economic development.
“Instead of taking advantage to reap the fruits of devolution, we are busy lazing and sowing seeds of hatred, tribal and political divisions.
Ethnic clashes in this 21st century must stop immediately,” he said.
Jaffar is famous for his ‘Walk of My Life’ campaign, a peace rally against tribalism and ethnicity.
In 2014, he staged a walk from Mombasa to Nairobi and, thereafter, to Moyale.
