County Director of Health Dr Lusi Ojwang, said his office has information about mushrooming private clinics that are not approved to operate.

"We acknowledge the existence of such clinics, and we are doing everything we can to shut them down. But in the meantime we urge the public not seek services from such facilities as it is endangering their lives," said Ms Ojwang.

Ojwang who was speaking to this writer via phone on Tuesday added that residents seeking medical attention from private clinics should be free to ask for the permit allowing them to operate.

"We have quacks who are out to make money at the expense of the innocent citizens, I urge the public whenever they come across such characters they should immediately report for action to be taken," said Ojwang.

Ojwang called on the public not to be lured with cheap medical care.

"I know this quacks provide medication cheaply, but don't fall for it as it will have serious consequences on you in future," she added.

Ojwang said the public plays an instrumental role in the existence of such clinics, whereby visiting them encourages them, while shunning away from such facilities starves them leading to closure.

She encouraged those who think they have qualified to start a private clinic should apply to get licenses so that they can operate in peace.
