Residents of King’ero village, Kikuyu Sub County have been challenged to sleep under mosquito nets to protect themselves and their children from malaria during the rainy season.
Speaking at a public awareness and mobilisation campaign against malaria in King’ero village on Tuesday, the clan elder Mr Bernard Wamenju asked all residents to register in his office in order to benefit from free Insecticides Treated Nets (ITNs) to protect themselves from malaria.
“I want to also remind expectant women and those parents with children under the age of five to use ITNs to protect themselves and their children against malaria which is rampant during this rainy season,” said the clan elder.
He, however, accused some expectant women of selling mosquito nets given to them by the government for financial benefits.
Mr Wamenju further urged the public to embrace public hygiene and sanitation in their homes encouraging them to routinely clear bushes and drain stagnant water to prevent mosquitoes from breeding.
He warned members of the public against self-medication noting that they should instead seek medical help at health facilities whenever they are ill.
