Speaking to journalists on Sunday, Gilgil MP Mathenge Nderitu condemned those blaming President Uhuru Kenyatta over rising insecurity, saying that it is the responsibility of every citizen to promote peace.

The MP added that though the government is mandated to provide security, citizens and leaders have a bigger role to play.

Nderitu said that the ‘Nyumba Kumi’ security policy that was introduced by the government would help if embraced.

“Leaders and the public must support the initiatives by the government aimed at fighting insecurity,” he added.

The legislator urged Gilgil locals to partner with law enforcers in order to address rising crime, further appealing to law enforcers to conduct more patrols and deal with elements of crime in the sub-county.

Meanwhile, Nderitu called on women and persons living with disability to apply for development funds.

He said very few women and disabled persons have applied for the funds, stating that the money belongs to them and they should utilize it.

The MP also urged the Nakuru County government to work with women and youths to spur development, observing that working with women and youths will empower them economically and help fight unemployment and poverty.
