The County government of Nyamira has embarked on a month long exercise that will see spirited anti-jigger campaigns across all the 20 wards.
Naomi Nyagarama, governor’s wife, on Monday urged victims to seize the opportunity and seek medication during the exercise.
“The county government has partnered with my office and Red Cross to carry out anti-jigger campaigns across all the wards during this month,” she said when launching the exercise in Nyamira.
“I would like to challenge all the victims to take advantage of the exercise and come for treatment as we embark on improving sanitation amongst residents,” she added.
Nyagarama said over two hundred families will have their home refurbished during the initiative as the county embarks on zero tolerance to jiggers.
“We all know the adverse impact of jiggers to our population. It is an impediment to development and we are determined to have two hundred homes refurbished as we fight this menace,” she added.
“We also want to ensure that school going children who are victims are treated and given a second chance to continue with their studies,” she said, challenging parents to accompany their children for treatment.
She also called area residents to embrace good sanitation and warned politician from interfering with the campaigns.
“We must at all-time embrace good sanitation as the prime method of getting rid of jiggers. I also challenge politicians to desist from politicizing the campaign because it’s their culture to sabotage such good courses,” she said.
The exercise will be conducted on a sub county basis with Borabu and Masaba north among the first beneficiaries.
