An assistant chief from Nyamira County risks being sacked after a section of residents demonstrated against his leadership.
This follows allegations that he battered a group of men alleged to have been engaging in illicit drugs business.
According to the residents, Sambu uses excessive force to handle issues.
Led by a local human rights activist Charles Bosire, the residents temporarily sieged the Riamoni Assistant chief’s offices before he was rescued by police from Gesima.
“We demand that he is sacked with immediate effect. Long gone are days of intimidation and we have officially presented a petition to the county commissioner to take action,” Bosire said.
They demanded that the chief be responsible for the medication of the five youths said to be in a critical but stable condition at Kapkatet Hospital.
“It’s surprising that he can beat people without giving them a fair hearing. He should have taken them to court and that is why we want Onwong’a to take action,” he added.
However, Sambu denied the claims and accused the activist of inciting residents against his administration.
“I only warned the youths against engaging in unscrupulous activities. They should tell us who beat them because I am also an interested party,” he said.
