Nyamira County residents want capital offenders sentenced for life.
They said when such offenders are released from jail after completing their terms, they commit the same offences, a move they said leads to residents lynch them.
“Most of them once they are set free end up dying because they commit the same mistakes and get killed by people. Let them be jailed forever,” said Benjamin Bosire.
Speaking in Nyamira town during the collection of views from residents on how such criminals should handled, they proposed that they be put behind bars for life.
“We support that when such criminals are arrested and found guilty, they should be jailed forever,” added James Momanyi.
The collection of views is being undertaken by the power of mercy and advisory committee and national crime research centre.
It is in Nyanza region to collect views on the administration of capital punishment and management of capital offences where it will pitch camp for the next two weeks.
The team will visit Kisii, Siaya, Migori, Homa Bay and Kisumu counties.
