Nyaronge region may be the new Nyamira County headquarters if the incumbent leadership yields to mounting pressure from the area residents.
Speaking on Tuesday at the village, many residents and members of the political class said the region was centrally placed hence accessible by residents easily, besides having government land for easy expansion.
This comes barely two years after heated debate at the defunct Nyamira county council in which many leaders were divided on the exact location in which the headquarters were to be built.
According to former councillor Julius Nyachieo, leaders had agreed to establish the headquarters at the region before anonymous people settled for Nyamira town which is allegedly at the edge of the county making it impossible for residents to access it easily.
“We had agreed to establish the headquarters here because it is a central place in the county. I really don’t know who changed our idea and settled for Nyamira town,” he said.
“But I must note that this is politics because some people want to stay at Nyamira because there are already existing structures even though there is no room for expansion,” added the former councillor.
Many investors had bought land in the region prior to 2013 General Elections hoping to capitalise on the county headquarters by building rentals in the region and this could be the reason behind increasing calls to relocate headquarters from Nyamira town to Nyaronge area.
