This is due to the disorganised way dumping of waste that has caused a foul smell in many parts of the small town.

Residents have been dumping waste anywhere including places adjacent to their residential areas due to the lack of proper physical planning of the small town. The town is located about five kilometres from Nyamira Town and has a population of more than 3,000 people.

“We created our own dumping site next to Kebirigo Society and the place is now full of waste and smelly. Sometimes it becomes a challenge for me to pass through the place to my house because I fear I may contract diseases,” says Ronald Chacha, a businessman at Kebirigo.

Dennis Ariemba, an electrician at Kebirigo faults the Nyamira County Public Health Director for not making any effort to improve the environment under which they live in.

“I urge the county government to carry spot checks in areas of the county where a large population live and employ measures that will ensure they stay in a conducive environment,"  said Alice Gesare, a resident of Kebirigo.
