Residents of Langas slum in Eldoret on Tuesday took to the streets to protest the action of a contractor who was awarded the contract to supply electricity in the area.
The residents who demonstrated told the media that the contractor allegedly started uprooting the electric poles he had previously erected causing confusion in the area.
The World Bank funded project requires every household in the slum to pay Sh 1160 to cater for the electricity connection.
"We were almost giving up on the electricity since we were told about it but we were relieved when we saw the contractor erecting posts. All of a sudden the posts have now been taken away, we don't know what is happening," said Jackson Korir, a resident.
John Maina, a resident, said that they had already incurred costs in wiring of their houses and asked the government to intervene.
Irene Kerubo, a resident blamed the area leadership for their misfortunes. "Where are our MP and MCA? They ought to know what is happening but they are nowhere to be seen. We demand that this contractor be changed,” she said.
