Parents in Kibera now want the Ministry of Education, led by Education CS, Fred Matiangi to ban holiday tuition since schools have closed for the April holiday.
Speaking at DC area, the parents said that the ministry should not allow children to attend holiday tuition since they will be asked to pay money to the teachers who will be running the tuition exercise.
The parents lauded Matiangi for the changes he is making in the ministry.
“Students and pupils need to rest after being at school for three months now. The time set for education to cover the syllabus is enough and teachers should work on the timeline set,” said Benjamin Kiala, a resident.
He noted that teachers use the holiday tuition excuse to get money from parents who are poor for their own interests.
“There is a time and a season for everything. Children should be left to rest for April holiday before going back to school early May,” said Nicholas Kombo, a parent.
Matiang’i banned holiday tuition three years ago and any teacher found asking children to come for tuition is to safe severe consequences.
