Speaking at pipeline trading centre on Tuesday, the residents termed it as the most dangerous business taking place in Nakuru. They said that selling illegal fuel which includes petrol diesel and kerosene is putting the entire centre in danger in case of fire.

They said that a recent fire tragedy in the area reducing six houses to ashes was caused by the stored petrol in one of the houses.

The residents urged Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua to stop the business before it causes a tragedy like the one happened in Syokimau leaving many people dead and property worth millions of shillings destroyed.

John Wainaina, a resident in the area called for the arrest of those involved in the business.

"Those involved in this dangerous business are known. The government should enforce the law. Truck drivers are collaborating with middlemen who buy the fuel at a cheaper price and later sell it at normal prices," said Wainaina.

Joseph Owino, a hotelier said they live in fear as anything can happen since the fuel is poorly stored.

He said the fuel can destroy vehicles engines as most of these are mixed altering the quality.
