Residents of Kanaani shopping centre in Athi River have called on the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to investigate ongoing operations by security officers at Kivae Kwamboo village.
The residents say the village had been declared a no-go zone by the police officers who visit daily basis arresting the villagers.
They claimed the operations posed insecurity to the shopping centre as some residents attempted to seek refuge at the centre to avoid arrests by the police forces.
The residents who sought anonymity said it beat logics for the regular and administration police officers to camp in the village in dozens, but levels of insecurity continued to escalate leaving everybody in fear and panic.
"The village was raided, houses demolished and torched again on Friday night despite the security officers operations," said a resident.
The residents declined to be exposed for fear of being victimised claiming the security officers wanted information on their operations in the village kept discrete.
They said the elders who gave information to press on the first incident early this month when the village was raided in the night and houses torched, had been arrested by the police prior to last night's attack.
The victims of the first attack had accused local police of colluding with a foreign investor to frustrate and forcefully evict them from the land on which they claimed could be the reason for the attacks.
When contacted to comment on the incidents, a senior government officer from Mavoko Sub County who also sought anonymity said the attackers could be treated as normal hooligans.
He condemned the attacks passing stern warning to those involved, he said investigations were on and all the perpetrators linked to the act would be arrested and dealt with according to the law.
The officer dismissed claims by some victims that the local police were colluding with the business tycoon who according to them claimed to had bought the land from Lukenya Society to frustrate them in a bid of forcefully evicting them from the land.
