Makutano residents in Machakos County have asked the government to transfer police officers who have served in the area for more than five years, accusing them of laxity in addressing insecurity.
The residents complained of the rise of the level of insecurity in the area, further adding that the officers are allegedly harbouring criminals.
Speaking to our reporter, Amos Mutuku, an area resident said that several criminal gangs are allegedly roaming the village as the police watch.
“We want to ask the government to transfer these police officers who have served in this area for more than five years,” said Mutuku.
The resident claimed that despite numerous appeals to area senior security chiefs, nothing has been done to reduce the crime rate.
His sentiments were echoed by Naomi Wambua, who claimed that her shop was broken into two weeks ago and property of unknown value stolen.
She further added that the raiders broke into the shop at night and made away with money and other valuables.
Area Chief Dominick Matheka urged residents to be patient as the police are doing all they can to curb the vice.
He further noted that they have held a series of meetings to deliberate on security matters, adding that a lasting solution will be found soon.
The chief asked residents to provide information that will help arrest alleged criminal gangs.
