A section of Garissa residents have urged the former National Assembly speaker, Farah Maalim to vie for the gubernatorial position come 2017.
The residents who are ardent supporters of Aden Duale want Maalim to leave the legislative race to the latter noting that his presence in the county's politics would help elevate the region to higher developmental levels.
"Duale is a performer. I would rather have Farah Maalim being the governor than a member of parliament," said Abdirahman, a resident of Garissa Township constituency.
In the grass root politics, residents feel that Governor Jama has not done much to the people and so the need to have another icon in the seat.
In the last few weeks, Jama has been battling criticism from local politicians including Senator Haji over a poor track record and stalled developments in the county.
However, the residents still feel that the governor may perform only if he engages and consults with local leaders in his governance before initiating a project.
