Residents of Nakuru have decried the re-emergence of the banned stage near Nakuru Provincial General Hospital.

They said that despite being banned by the county government, matatus were now picking and dropping passengers at the stage.

This, they claimed, was contributing to the increased cases of traffic jam in the town, hence affecting the flow of traffic.

“The matatus stop in the middle of anywhere to drop passengers. Yet, when they had been banned, traffic used to flow smoothly. We do not know what became of the rule but we really need it back,” said Emily Kimani, a motorist.

Joseph Nd’ungu said that the uneasy flow of traffic often posed a hazard, as they often never indicate if they were going to stop.

“They just brake in front of you and one has to act quickly to avoid ramming into them. They need to be stopped completely,” he added.

Jacob Lang’at called for the traffic department to post a traffic policeman to man the area, saying that they were already getting out of control.

“Driving in this area is slowly becoming a nightmare. We cannot be able to control movement and we are at the mercy of the matatus operators. We seek a police officer who will help us tame them,” he added.
