Residents of Kimende in Lari sub county have appealed to the National Transport and Safety Authority to crackdown on rogue Public Service Vehicles operators in the area.

The residents are alleging that most of the PSVs operating in the area are not adhering to the law.

Speaking to this writer on Monday, the residents said many vehicles operating in the area are road-unworthy.

“The NTSA should move to this area and deal with Matatus that contravene the law,” said Jackson Kiiru, a trader at Kimende town.

Mr Mburu said most of the Matatus are old fashioned and do not deserve to be on the road.

“As passengers we are always worried about our safety on the road because some of our Matatus are in bad shape ,” said Jessica Wairumu, a resident.

The residents further complained of a habit where some PSVs board passengers in excess.

The locals now want the traffic department in the area together with NTSA to take up the matter and ensure that PSVs operators adhere to the law.

The residents said that crackdown on noisy PSVs being carried across the country should be extended to the area.

Last week the NTSA launched a crackdown on PSVs that portray offensive graffiti.

According to NTSA Director General Francis Meja the crackdown will be extended to all towns across the country with the aim of ensuring safety of all road users.
