Residents of Migosi, Car Wash and Nyawitta have called on the Kisumu County government to step in and bar matatus from using roads within the estates.
According to the residents, matatus dropping passengers to Kisumu CBD while avoiding traffic jam along the Kakamega-Kisumu road use the residential area roads, posing a great danger especially to children going to school.
The residents said the matatu’s drive at high speed endangering lives of people.
“These matatus drive at outrageous speeds without knowing that this roads are located in highly populated areas and something can happen,” said Pius Omulo.
The residents claim the morning hours are the worst due to the large number of people going to town.
The residents are now calling on the county government and traffic police to ensure that the vehicles follow the right routes.
“We wonder where police are at the moment, these people are disturbing us, we want them to patrol all areas and ensure that such drivers are held responsible for this menace," said Monicah Auma.
The locals called for the completion of the fly-over at Kondele along the Kisumu-Kakamega road to ease traffic.
