Residents of Uasin Gishu County have urged the county government to create public awareness campaigns so as to enable them understand devolution.

Speaking  in a public event  which was meant to address challenges being experienced in the implementation of devolution at Eldoret town hall on Friday, residents said that public education will enable them distinguish different roles played by members of the county and national governments.

“Public information will enable us to understand how the county government works, it will also enable us get the difference that exists between members of the county assembly,” said Peter Chepkong’a, one of the residents.

The residents maintained that if the public will be given Information concerning their county government, as a result the county will excel in devolution.

“If members of the public from every ward will be informed of what devolution entails, the county will excel in devolution,” said Kipkorir Maiyo, a resident.

On the other hand, residents also praised the county government for its efforts to improve infrastructure and health facilities in the county.

“I thank our county government for their efforts to construct and repair the roads. I also praise them for the health facilities especially dispensaries in our wards,” said Sammy Busienei, a resident from Turbo.
