Residents of Kisii’s Riverside Village have urged the county government to construct a simple modern bridge.
They said that the bridge made over a stream that connects Riverside and Fort Jesus Estate is very weak for use by pedestrians.
One of the residents, Dan Mbugua, says he cannot use the bridge anymore as it is weak and can collapse anytime. He says it is a threat to pedestrians especially women and children who use it when fetching water from the estates.
"This bridge is made of wood which rots with time especially in damp conditions," he said.
The current bridge was made by the area residents years ago after some children drowned while crossing the river which was overflown then.
