Uasin Gishu county commissioner Abdi Hassan has put on notice people employing minors either as house girls or shop attendants.

He said this is against the law and anyone who will be found will face the full force of the law.

“I have received information from the public that there are some individuals employing children as house helps and shop attendants, such people will be arrested for contravening children rights since according to the Constitution, children are entitled to an education which the national government is offering free and compulsory primary education," he said.

“This has led to many children dropping out of schools because they can be employed and earn a living. I will be sending his officers to arrest employers employing minors. I won’t allow this to happen under my watch,” he added.

He, however, warned parents against sending their children to look for employment instead of going saying that such parents will also be arrested and charged.

"I give a stern warning to parents who allow their children to be employed instead of going to school that they will be arrested and charged with child neglect," he said.
