Residents of Kisii County have been warned against stealing from accident victims when accidents occur.

Keroka Traffic Base Commander IItabul Kochale said residents have a tendency of rushing to accident scenes with the intention of stealing from the victims.

“I am urging residents to stop crowding at accident scenes whenever accidents occur because too much congestion hampers rescue efforts. Those rushing to accidents scenes to steal will be arrested and prosecuted,” he said.

Kochale said like in the latest accident where a Nyamira express bus rolled and injured 17 passengers at Amabuko area near Keroka on Wednesday, several locals rushed there and didn’t help police officers to rescue the victims.

“In future we will not be allowing so many people to crowd at accidents scenes without helping in rescuing the victims. Locals need to be trained on first aid skills which will help rescue accident victims,” he added.
