Kasarani and Eburu residents have praised the directive by President Uhuru Kenyatta to have construction of Moi North-South Lake road saying it will improve service delivery. The residents say that they had often been attacked by buffaloes, giraffes and baboons which hide in the bushes on the roads. “We could not move from this place to Naivasha town at night as we were often bitten by monkeys. We also feared that we could be killed by wild animals that roam freely in the area,” said Joseph Mureithi. Jane Kanini noted that they could also not access health care facilities on time. “Many women lost their children en route to the hospital to give birth. In most cases, people have lost their children after they hit potholes,” she added. President Uhuru Kenyatta issued a directive on Thursday to have the Moi North and South lake road repaired by December 2016. On a site visit to the area, construction work has begun on the road. Abigal Muthoni cited that police could rarely respond to emergencies on time as the poor roads hindered transportation. “In most cases the thieves got away before the police arrived,” said Muthoni. Leonard Karanja, a farmer, cited that it would now be easier to transport food to major markets. “Our food used to go bad before we reached the main market due to the poor roads,” he cited.
