Kibera residents are complaining about the increase in the number of bodaboda riders in the area.
They say the riders are increasing but they are not going to school for classes and are, therefore, quacks.
“It is very bad that parents have allowed their young boys to ride on roads without undergoing training. This is risking the lives of young youths who think that speeding motorbikes on roads will qualify them to be called experts. I urge all youths riding motorbikes in the slums of Kibera to undergo the necessary training since this will help them get skills on how they should ride on the road to prevent unnecessary road accidents that frequently involve quack riders who ride at high speeds,” stated Hillary Ndewa, a resident.
He further said that more than 70% of accidents reported are caused by unqualified bodaboda operators’ country wide.
“Police officers deployed on roads should carry out a crackdown to ensure that those riding motorbikes are qualified and have undergone training with valid documents,” said Jackson Okoth, a resident.
“The county government and NTSA should offer free training to youths who have interests in riding bodabodas since they can’t afford to raise training fees to join driving colleges. Through training, accidents can be avoided,” suggested Newton Odour.
