The opposition's NASA coalition leadership and delegation arrived in Homa Bay county on Saturday January 27, for the People's Assembly convention, Nyanza chapter.Led by Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi and host Governor Cyprian Awiti, several opposition leaders also arrived in Homa Bay town for the convention ahead of the controversial swearing-in ceremony on January 30.

Below are the resolutions made by Luo Nyanza Regional People’s Assembly.

"We the people of Luo Nyanza, representing the Counties of Homa Bay, Kisumu, Migori and Siaya have convened here today sitting as the People’s Assembly to chart our political destiny.

We extend a hand of friendship to our brothers and sisters who have embraced the People’s Assembly, and we look forward to sitting with them in the National Convention to resolve once and for all the political injustices that we have suffered together under colonialism and neo-colonialism.

We are honored by the presence of our President H.E. Raila Amolo Odinga, our Deputy President H.E. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, Hon. Musalia Mudavadi and leaders from other parts of the republic who have graced this historic occasion.

Luo Nyanza has carried the torch for freedom, democracy and nationhood since colonial times. Our leaders have sacrificed their personal ambitions in the spirit of nationhood. It is not just that this spirit of brotherhood has never been reciprocated, it has been trampled time after time.

Our sons and daughters have excelled and served the nation diligently in all spheres, as lawyers, engineers, doctors, but our region was neglected and marginalized as political punishment.

We recall that the travesty of justice that has brought us here began with the brutal murder of our son Chris Msando. We pray for his soul and that of the many others who suffered the same fate before him. It is a matter of public record that no presidential election was conducted in Luo Nyanza on the 26 October.

Instead, our principled stand was met with untold indiscriminate state violence killing men, women and children. We owe it to ourselves and to their families to ensure that their sacrifice was not in vain.

To this end, we have resolved as follows:

• to reiterate that we do not recognize the illegitimate presidency of Uhuru Kenyatta, and to state in no uncertain terms that we shall not accept the institutionalization of sham elections in Kenya. There will be no business as usual until a democratically elected President assumes office.

• to declare our unwavering support for the swearing in of H.E Raila Odinga and H.E Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka as President and Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya as scheduled on 30 January 2018, and to appeal to all our people to grace the occasion.

• to state here and now that we shall pursue electoral justice without fear and favor, and to state that we shall not rest until we secure justice for the victims of police violence during the 2017 general election, including bringing to book the murderers of Chris Msando,

• to declare that the Luo Nation will never accept to live under dictatorship. We will participate and support fully the Peoples Assembly process until we restore democracy or go our separate ways.
