[Photo|Dr Alfred Mutua]Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua chaired a meeting between officials of the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) led by the CEO Dr. Jimmy Smith, the Machakos Security team and the County government on the ongoing unlawful occupation of the 32,000 acre ILRI property in the Kapiti plains. In the meeting on Monday, the following points were highlighted;1. That the Kapiti plains property, was purchased by ILRI and is not public land. ILRI holds the title deed for the property in question and are therefore the owners until the Courts direct otherwise.2. There are ongoing court cases on the land, and an injunction halting any works/invasion on the said land is in force.3. People settling on the land are being misguided by unscrupulous people in a web of deceit that is seeing conmen rob Mwananchi of close to Sh50 million in allotment letters, survey fees etc. From the meeting, they resolved that;1. The Court order on the ILRI land will be fully enforced unless another injunction that revokes the initial injunction is presented.2. The public should refrain from any form of invasion of the property and purchase or sale off Kapiti land.3. That this is a high level of conmanship where Machakos people are being fleeced and misguided by certain politicians and conmen who are focused on getting rich at the expense of the ordinary Mwananchi yearning for own land.4. That Investigations will be instituted by the CID and Police and anyone who has any information on this to come forward and assist in the investigation."I also urge people of Machakos to abide by the injunction in place and avoid encroaching on the Kapiti plains land. They should also refuse to be misguided by politicians who do not have their interests at heart."
