Speaking on Tuesday in his constituency, Ngunjiri said that the officers have treated the governor with disrespect.

He said that they should have gone to court and secured an order compelling the governor to go to their offices other than arresting him.

“Elected leaders should be treated with respect and EACC detectives should do that by respecting Wa Iria. How do you prevail on a leader of his caliber and rough him up? he asked.

Ngunjiri added that EACC should treat the governor like other people who are served with summons to appear in their offices and not making arrest.

“It is very unfortunate that he was on his way to hospital to visit a friend and he was arrested. Let them issue summons like they do to other people but not see them chasing after the governor every other time,” he said.

His arrest sparked uproar and criticism from a section of leaders in Murang’a blaming his woes on a powerful antagonizing political force.
