Borabu MP Ben Momanyi has accused the government of allegedly using the police to violate basic human rights and threatened to sue it in court.
This comes after three protesters in Kisumu and Siaya counties allegedly succumbed to bullet injuries during demonstrations initiated by opposition, Cord in a bid to push the electoral body, IEBC out of office.
The furious MP, who spoke on phone demanded that the government apologises for using excessive force to contain peaceful protesters.
“The government of Kenya must respect human rights unconditionally and that is not debatable. We cannot have the police using excessive force to contain otherwise peaceful people. This is unwarranted in democratic countries,” he said.
“The government owes Kenyans an apology following the deaths witnessed on Monday. The constitution is very clear of picketing so it bits logic that citizens can be denied their right. Any violation of human rights cannot be taken lightly and I am ready to go to courts if the affected people do not get justice,” he added.
He also demanded apprehension of police officers who allegedly shot the demonstrators and called for their expeditious prosecution.
“Human rights must be respected at all costs. We want to see the officers who shot the innocent people arrested and arraigned in court. They bereaved families must be compensated and the government ought to change its tactics of face us in court,” he said.
